2026 Illinois ASA State Shooter of the Year Program
Shooter of the Year buckles will be offered to every eligible class regardless of the number of participants in each class.
- A total of 5 qualifiers must be shot in the class at 5 different ranges
- All ASA rules and regulations apply to all SOY state qualifiers.
- In order for your score to count as a qualifier and for a SOY score you MUST be an active 2026 ASA member prior to shooting your first ASA qualifier
- All state qualifiers will be a 20 target set. The State Championship will be a 30 target set.
- All ranges will be required to set the following stakes and should have them posted at the sign in table.
- 45 yard max - White
- 40 yard max - Red
- 30 yard max - Blue
- 25 yard max – Yellow
- 20 yard max - Green
- 15 yard max - Orange
- OPTIONAL 50 yard max - Black
- Shooters must register to shoot in the same (or higher) class that they shoot at ASA Pro/Am level. You will be allowed one class change for the season and you must remain in that class for the remainder of the season. If you choose to change classes in the middle of the season, you forfeit all scores from your previous class.
- You may NOT shoot by yourself or in a group with household or family members only and have your score count toward shooter of the year.
- Your qualifier group must consist of at least 3 shooters in order to count the score. If you do not travel with at least a group of 3 please inform the host club upon arrival and seek to obtain additional shooting partners to fill your group.
- At the discretion of the host club and or IL ASA state director a shooter(s) may be required at random to shoot their equipment through a chronograph for class speed compliance.
- All the ASA qualifiers shot inside the state of Illinois are eligible for SOY points
- A shooter must compete in a minimum of (5) state qualifiers (must be shot at 5 different ranges) within the state of Illinois, and the Illinois State ASA Championship to be eligible for the SOY program. Regardless of the number of qualifiers shot, only the top 5 scores from 5 different ranges and the score from the Illinois State Championship will count towards the SOY points standing.
- Any shooter that does not compete in the State Championship, and/or does not post scores in the required number of events is ineligible for the State SOY program.
- The SOY program is open to both residents and non-residents of Illinois. Only qualifiers shot inside the state of Illinois are eligible for SOY points. The rules for the Illinois State SOY program apply to all ASA annual and life members. Multi-state qualifiers shot in other states do not count towards IL SOY scores.
- The SOY program will include all amateur classes recognized by the ASA
- Shooter of the Year awards will be given out at the Illinois State ASA Championship, Sunday, July 26, 2026
- Scores will be posted regularly on the Illinois ASA Archery Facebook group and IllinoisASA.com website.
- SOY will be calculated by a point system and not an accumulation of scores.
- 50 points for completed course, 5 points for 1st place, 3 points for 2nd place, 1 point for 3rd place and 1 point added to your total for each shooter who scored less than your score.
Example: Shooter gets 1st place with 7 shooters in the class=50 + 5 + 6 = 61 points for that qualifier.
- At the conclusion of an ASA State Qualifier participating clubs should e-mail their qualifier shooter information to the state director by no later than 10.00 p.m. of the Wednesday following their qualifier.
Illinois State Director will be responsible for receiving the scores from clubs hosting a state ASA qualifier, and once the scores have been tabulated the state SOY standings will be posted to the Illinois ASA Archery Facebook group and IllinoisASA.com website.
